Is your law firm keeping evidence and information safe? How to make your firm bulletproof in the digital era.
Recently, in an article published in Fiveline’s blog and written by Katie Wolf, we can see a strong and well-organized case for cloud-based evidence management. At Inimble, we can confirm both the positive impact of having this asset and the dangers of not getting it.
If you read Fiveline’s article, you will see a very detailed and thoroughly researched work that emphasizes how essential it is for modern law firms to stay up-to-date with the latest tech advancements in the field, particularly when it comes to security-related topics.
To quote the article’s conclusion: “The days of overflowing evidence lockers and time-consuming manual processes are fading into the past. In today’s digital age, cloud-based evidence management is no longer a luxury; it’s necessary for law firms seeking to remain competitive, efficient, and compliant.”
Indeed, it is not a matter of whether or not you should consider it, but rather when you are going to include this important asset in your firm.
Since remote work is at the backbone of our business model, and therefore one of the most essential parts of what we do for clients, the data-security issue was the first one we needed to take care of if we wanted to offer our services to any law firm in the first place.
How do we do this? Embracing cloud-based management that allows protection of any potentially sensitive information from any attack or interference. And the results have been a massive success so far. As Katie mentions in her article:
“[…] By leveraging the power of the cloud, legal professionals can streamline their evidence handling processes, enhance collaboration, and ultimately achieve better outcomes for their clients.”
So, it’s not just that information is safer, it’s also how it streamlines the workload for the rest of the firm that makes it such a massive asset for our clients.
Efficiency, safety, and productivity all get massive benefits from this more tech-oriented approach, but what if you don’t want to store your information in the cloud?
After all, firms have for centuries at this point, surely what has worked for them can still work to this day, right?
Well, the evidence points in the opposite direction: A reluctance to engage with newer technologies can make firms slugger, slower, and more prone to getting hacked and cyber-attacked.
Going back to Katie’s article, she has this to say about it:
“Maintaining the chain of custody—a documented record of the handling and possession of evidence—is essential for ensuring its admissibility in court. Traditional evidence management methods, with their reliance on manual tracking and physical handling, increase the risk of evidence being damaged, lost, or tampered with, potentially jeopardizing the outcome of a case.”
It’s clear at this point that a shift towards safer, more efficient, and cost-effective is a must, but that doesn’t mean that a move to cloud-based storage will automatically make your law firm bulletproof.
There’s a methodology to get there.
And after working with so many law firms across the years, at Inimble we’ve designed and battle-tested our system to keep information always IN and never OUT.
So, if you read this (and also check out the original article on Fiveline’s blog since it expands on other things as well) and you come to the logical conclusion of taking the next step, then at Inimble, we’re ready to make that transition totally seamless and faster than you could think possible.
